'De Poppenmaker' (The Dollmaker) is a mini-musical for multi-level harp ensemble, in which the dolls come to life.
The books are in the Dutch language.
A young dollmaker lives in a small house on the edge of a village.
The village has a beautiful little church, a baker, a shoemaker, and a blacksmith.
In his workshop, the dollmaker works on his dolls all day—often until dusk falls.
With clay from the river, he shapes the finest little hands and faces. And with precious, delicate fabrics, he dresses the dolls beautifully.
There are already many special dolls standing and sitting in his small workshop.
One day, the dollmaker makes an angel, entirely out of gold.
At night, the angel comes to life. The angel tells the dollmaker that he will receive three dreams. This will change his life.
He makes two beautiful dolls: a girl in a blue dress and a ballerina. The dolls come to life when the dollmaker goes to sleep, but in the morning they sit lifeless in their chairs again.
Then he makes a small harp. Who will play the harp?
Will the dollmaker find what he longs for so deeply?
